Cannot Find Music Files Stored on the PC - Technics

Problem: Music files stored on your PC are not visible or playable on your Technics system when accessed over a network.

Possible Causes and Solutions

1. Music Files Not Registered to the Network Server

Cause: Music files that are not added to the library of your network server (e.g., Windows Media® Player) will not appear on the Technics system.

Solution: Add the music files and folders to the library of your network server.

  • For Windows Media® Player 11 or 12:
    1. Open Windows Media® Player on your PC.
    2. Select "Organize" > "Manage Libraries" > "Music."
    3. Add the folders containing your music files.
  • For smartphones or other devices, use the relevant app to share or stream files.

2. Unsupported File Format

Cause: Some file formats may be unsupported by the network server or the Technics system.

Solution: Verify that the music files are in a supported format (e.g., MP3, FLAC, AAC). Refer to the Operating Manual for supported file formats. If necessary, convert unsupported files to a compatible format.

3. File Sharing Not Enabled

Cause: File sharing may not be enabled on the PC, preventing access to music files over the network.

Solution: Ensure that "File Sharing" is turned on in your computer's settings:

  • On Windows OS:
    1. Go to "Control Panel" > "Network and Sharing Center."
    2. Select "Change advanced sharing settings."
    3. Turn on "File and Printer Sharing."

4. Windows Media® Player Configuration Not Completed

Cause: Windows Media® Player may not be configured for streaming.

Solution: Enable streaming in Windows Media® Player:

  • Open Windows Media® Player.
  • Select "Stream" > "Turn on media streaming."
  • Follow the prompts to enable media streaming on your PC.

5. Network Connectivity Issues

Cause: The PC and Technics system may not be connected to the same network.

Solution: Ensure that both devices are on the same Wi-Fi or wired network. Restart your router, PC, and Technics system if necessary to refresh the connection.

6. Large Music Library

Cause: A large number of files or folders can slow down the indexing process, causing some files not to appear.

Solution:

  • Organize your music into smaller folders.
  • Ensure the network server has enough time to index the files.

Additional Tips

  • Restart Devices: Restart the PC, router, and Technics system to clear any temporary glitches.
  • Firmware Updates: Check for firmware updates for your Technics system on the Global Support Site.
  • Firewall Settings: Ensure that your PC’s firewall or antivirus software is not blocking access to the network server.
