How to use the child safety lock feature. - Panasonic Microwave Ovens

Starting March 2024 the Federal law required Microwave Ovens to be equipped with an electronic door lock safety function. The oven door is “locked” automatically after it's use to prevent burns, access and accidentally operated by children or anyone unfamiliar with its use when removing hot food or beverages after cooking. Distinguishing from that of child safety lock where previously the door did not lock. Specifically, the electronic safety lock feature is activated or deactivated through specific buttons on the control panel.


Most Panasonic microwaves are locked using the following 2 methods:

  1. To activate In sequence right away Press any of the defrost buttons dependant on your model [Turbo Defrost] or [Auto Defrost] or [Defrost].
  2. Follow by pressing [Timer] and then [Popcorn].
  3. In turn a, a long beep will be heard, "On" will show on the display for roughly 2 seconds, or replug the open, both ways can reactivate the function.

    If you choose to deactivate this feature you can do so, however we must caution you with regards to the intended purpose of this feature as noted above.

  1. To deactivate reapeat the activating steps in sequence right away Press any of the defrost buttons dependant on your model [Turbo Defrost] or [Auto Defrost] or [Defrost].
  2. Follow by pressing [Timer] and then [Popcorn].
  3. In turn a, a long beep will be heard, "On" will show on the display for roughly 2 seconds, or replug the open, both ways can reactivate the function.

The most common method used to activate and deactivate models manufactured before May 2024 with the child lock feature follow the following metthods:

  1. To Lock - Press the [Start] button three times. Time of day will disappear and “LOCK” or a lock symbol Lock Symbol appears on the screen.
  2. To Unlock - Press [Stop/Reset] button three times. Time of day will reappear on the screen.

Activating safety lock (child lock)

  1. Press [Frozen Pizza]
  2. Then press [Timer/Clock (Door Open) ].
  3. Last press [Popcorn].

  1. When the colon or time of day appears in the display, press [Stop/Reset] three times; “key symbol ” will appear in the display.
  2. Press Stop/Reset three times; the display will return to the colon or time of the day and Child Safety Lock will be cancelled.

NOTES:


  1. This feature prevents the electronic operation of the oven until cancelled. It does not lock the door.
  2. To set or cancel Child Safety Lock, Stop/Reset button must be pressed 3 times within 10 seconds.
  3. You can set Child Safety Lock feature when the display shows a colon or time of day.

Model NN-CD66NSC, NN-CD66NS AWH

  2. Then press [Convection Bake]

  1. To Lock - Press the [Start] Start button button three times. Time of day will disappear and a lock Lock Symbol symbol will appear on the screen. Actual time will not be lost.
  2. To Unlock - Press the [Stop/Reset] stop button three times. Time of day will reappear on the screen.

  1. To Lock - When "0" appears in the display, Press [Stop/Cancel] stop Cancel button button three times. Lock Symbol will appear on the screen.
  2. To Unlock - Press [Stop/Cancel] stop Cancel button button three times. The display will return to the colon (:) or time of day and Child Safety lock will be cancelled.

Note:


  1. This feature prevents the electronic operation of the oven until cancelled. It does not lock the door.
  2. To set or cancel Child Safety Lock, Stop/Cancel button must be pressed 3 times within 10 seconds.
  3. You can set Child SafetyLock feature when the display shows a colon or time of day.

How to open/unlock door after cooking

  1. With the door closed, press the [Timer/Clock (Door Open)] button TimerClockDoorOpenButton
    • On the display screen "OPEN" is displayed.
  2. Press Door release button, the oven door is now unlocked. Door Open release Button
    • Open the door and using oven mits carefully remove the food or beverage safely.

NOTE:

  • The locked door will disengage when unit is unplugged.

How to deactivate safety lock

If you choose to deactivate this feature you can do so, however we must caution you with regards to the intended purpose of this feature as noted above.

  1. Press [Inv.Turbo Defrost].
  2. Then press [Timer/Clock (Door Open) ].
  3. Last press [Popcorn] in sequence the window will flash “Lock Symbol“, or replug the oven, both ways can reactivate the function.

How to open/unlock door after cooking

When plugged in, the door lock is automatically activated. As soon as cooking finishes the window shows “key symbol“ to indicate that the oven is locked.

  1. With the door closed, press the [Door Open] button.
  2. Press Door release button.

Notes

  • During the cooking process, or 30 min after cooking, if the "Door Open" button is pressed, but the door is not actually opened, the door will lock again after 10 seconds.
  • During the cooking process, if you try to open the door, the cooking will pause and the oven light will come on.

  1. Carefully pull forward the right corner of the microwave oven just past the countertop
  2. Press and hold side button while simultaneously, Insert a pen tip into hole until you hear a “click”.

IMPORTANT: Be sure to deactivate the safety lock before installing a trim kit.

  1. During the cooking process, or 30 min after cooking, if the "Door Open" button is pressed, but the door is not actually opened, the door will lock again after 10 seconds.
  2. During the cooking process, if you try to open the door, the cooking will pause and the oven light will come on.

When plugged in, the door lock is automatically activated as soon as cooking starts. The window flashes “ ▼ “ to indicate that the oven is locked. Follow below sequences to unlock the door, which must be finished within 10 seconds. If there is not any operation within 30 minutes from the end of cooking, the door would be unlocked automatically.

To unlock the oven during or after cooking:

  1. Press the “0” pad once.
  2. Press door release button, the oven door is now unlocked. Open the door and take out the food with special care.

To Deactivate:

If you choose to deactivate this feature you can do so, however we must caution you with regards to the intended purpose of this feature as noted above.

  1. Press [Inverter Turbo Defrost], [Cooking Timer, [Popcorn] in sequence, a long beep will be heard, the door lock function is now deactivated.

  1. When the time of day appears in the display, press Start three times; “ ▼ ” will appear in the display.
